How to root Asus Zenfone 3 Max & Install TWRP Recovery (ZC520TL)

Asus Zenfone 3 Max is One of the successful release from Asus Smartphones. Asus Brand is known for their hardware quality & Performance but they come with very poor software interface.
So today we're going to show you How to root this device & Install TWRP Recovery ( Custom Recovery)
With the help of custom recovery your able to flash custom firmware's, Custom Roms..etc

Note:- Follow the tutorial carefully to avoid problems, Take Full Backup.

Note:- Rooting your device may void warranty so do it on your own risk we are not responsible for any damage or anything.

Steps :-

Download VCOM MediaTek PreLoader USB drivers to this link.

MediaTek Preloadeder USB Driver

Decompress the zip on the pc

Go to the control panel, then "hardware" and then "device management". Here, click on the name "COM port and LPT" leaving the highlighted option, you will see the "add legacy hardware" option at the top of the "Action" item.

Click the following option,

choose to manually install the hardware from a list and at this point you will see a list of devices> Select "show all devices" and go ahead.

Now click on the driver disk and go to manually select the VCOM USB driver that you have unpacked earlier, here choose the subfolder of Windows 7, then one of two usb2ser_Win7.inf or usb2ser_Win764.inf files.

the second if you have a 64bit system (Like almost all of today's modern PCs), and ok ok.

On the new list of items that will appear, select "MediaTek PreLoader USB VCOM Port" and complete the installation.

If you have Windows 10, all the procedure from step 2 should be done in the special mode of disabling the digital signature, otherwise the system will detect that the drivers are not signed and will not successfully complete the installation (or rather it will have completed it , But the actual drivers will not be installed correctly). You can find the guide to access this special mode here.

Special Mode Access

Now download the software for MediaTek devices called "SP Flash Tool" at this link.

SP Flash Tool

And unzip the zip

Download the TWRP recovery for Zenfone 3 Max and its scatter file from this link

TWRP Recovery

And decompress the zip in a folder at your own pace

Turn on the phone and load the supersu.zip file (without decompressing it) in the internal memory of the same one you find on this link.

SuperSu.zip

Now open the SP Flash Tool software and load the scatter file (in txt format) previously unpacked in the folder in the "Scatter-loading files" string, then in the drop down menu, leave "Download only" and again in the " Recovery "check mark and clicking on the green part without writing (on the right) select the ever-decompressed img file of the recovery. You should have a situation like this

Now, when the phone is switched off and unplugged from the pc's usb port,

click the Download button at the top (the one with the green arrow pointing down) and only after connecting the phone to the usb.

The recovery flash will then start.

At the end, and only this time, in order to prevent the first reboot overwriting the TWRP recovery again with the original one, do not restart your phone right away, but immediately enter TWRP from the situation where you hold down the volume key combination on + ignition.

Move with volume up in the selection menu that will appear until you select recovery and confirm the volume entry down.

At the request of the selected password, delete and confirm date to the next request for write permissions with a swipe

Now we just have to flash the supersu.zip file previously loaded on the internal memory (it's important that this step do it before you exit the recovery, otherwise your device might go bootloop when you reboot).

At restart, you will finally see the supersu app and you will have root privileges!

That's It You've successfully rooted Asus Zenfone 3 & Installed Recovery.
