Facebook’s Messenger App Gains Group Video Chat Feature

Posted by Droid Firmware Flash on Tuesday, December 20, 2016

Messenger started out as part of Facebook itself, but in recent years, the company has been trying to push the messaging service as a standalone social media platform. The company is now reaching ever closer to its goal as Messenger is now offering the ability to start group video chats on its platform, for all users. This comes after it was announced just yesterday that Messenger has introduced group voice calls to its platform on desktop.

Group video chat has been the most requested Messenger feature ever, and with 245 million people using the video chat feature on the platform every month, it is not hard to see why Facebook has released this new feature. With group video chat, you will be allowed to have face-to-face conversations with not just one friend at a time, but with multiple friends on Messenger. The feature is being rolled out to users all over the globe today and it is available for both Android and iOS devices, as well as the desktop version of Messenger. So, if you want to use this feature, do ensure that you have downloaded the latest version of Messenger, which should be available for download today or in the coming days.

This new feature is very simple to use, and to get started, you will need to be in a group chat, or if you aren’t in one, create one. Then, simply tap on the video icon which can be found on the upper right of the screen to enter a video chat. This will notify all participants of the group chat, and they will be able to join whenever they feel like it, by just tapping the notification. However, if you would just like to ring a few people in a group, you may do so by tapping on the ‘Ringing’ button located beside each participant in the group. This will send a notification to selected people, instead of the whole group. It should also be noted that up to 50 people may join a group video chat but only the dominant speaker will be shown to the whole group. If there are six or less participants in the video chat, the view of all the participants will be displayed.
