We take a look at how you can install the new update either Over-The-Air or via iTunes.
OTA
For those installing directly, you need to go to the Settings app in your iOS device and then click on General.
In General, you’ll see a tab for Software update, and you can click and install the update directly from there. Note that the Apple iPhone or iPad device will restart once the update is completed, so it’s best that you do this if you  have all the data backed up.
iTunes
Alternately you can plug your computer into a Mac or Windows device with the latest version of iTunes software from Apple.
Using iTunes to update is always a better options, especially if you’re using patchy WiFi because you need good connectivity to update. Once you open iTunes, just click on the iPhone or iPad or iPod Touch on the top-right.
If you keep connecting this device to your Mac, there’s a good chance that all your apps, photos etc are all-backed-up, but you can do a manual back-up as well and the option will there in the About tab of the iPhone.
You will also see the software update option in iTunes as well and then you can either download the link and install the update later or just download and install in one go.
Additionally RedmondPie has put out some direct download links for Apple iPhones, iPads and iPods and you can check out these here.
