How to Install and root Android ICS update XWLPG on Samsung Galaxy SII i9100

Samsung Galaxy SII is yet highest selling Android smartphone, the new SGS3 has taken its place. SGS2 has already got the ICS update but Samsung has released another package ICS 4.0.3 XWLPG. It contains many bug fixed and latest GPU drivers. There are few more enhancements that cannot be specifically detailed.

Pre-requisite:
Download device driver and install, install Odin, Other Pre-requisite is same as the previous Firmware update tutorial here. We would also suggest to backup your essential data to make sure you do not lose anything.

Download XWLPG Android ICS firmware for SGS2[extract zip file to a folder]

How to Install Android ICS XWLPG firmware on Galaxy SII:

1. Switch off SGS2, restart in download mode, press Volume Down + Home + Power once splash screen with robot logo appears press the Volume up button. Now, connect it to computer.
2. open Odin and select the I9100XWLPG_I9100XXLPX_I9100NEELP4_Home.tar.md5″ in the PDA section. It will confirm with message “added”. Now, Press start to flash the firmware. Once complete it will give a Green success message and phone will restart.
Installing this official firmware revokes root access of Android and thus you will have to root your device again to enjoy the privileges. You have installed the latest firmware for detailed steps and other cautions visit thistutorial.

How to Root SGS 2 on ICS XWLPG firmware:

This Part is very similar to flashing firmware to the phone. Just put the phone in download mode and connect to PC. Open Odin select the “CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_LPG-v5.5-CWM5.zip” in PDA section and click start. It will take few minutes and it will show a green success message. The phone will restart and you will get the SuperSU apps on your apps. If you are still not sure then you can try installing apps like Titanium Backup that requires rooting.
